My interest in these was piqued last night by a chance youtube video.

While not one to unquestionably swallow obvious new-age hippie bullsh*t, I do like to keep an open mind and there appear to be some decent, scientifically-grounded reasons why these might be of benefit.

As it happens I found a mat and pillow for sale locally for not a lot of money (compared to new ones at least) and had a go earlier for about 10 minutes on my back / neck.

First impressions:

- It's bloody pointy, but not unbearably so
- Getting on and off is the worst bit
- After 2-3 mins the pain subsides and while not comfortable, the feeling becomes more of a prickly warm sensation
- On the floor it wasn't a whole lot of fun as the load seemed concentrated on the top of my arse - moving it to the bed helped a bit in this regard
- I did find it really quite relaxing
- I think it helped ease some chronic joint pain in my right hand, although several hours later this appears to be creeping back.
- While I'm usually always running a sleep deficit, sleep feels more accessible now as I'm feeling more relaxed / yawning more. I feel more like I could sleep rather than just wrung-out and wired.
-Overall the afterglow feels like that experienced post-cycling; if not as intense

I think it definitely has some positive effect on mood and pain, and look forward to continuing to use it. I think the most appropriate time would be just before bed as I'm struggling to keep my eyes open now..

Anyone else had any experiences - positive or negative?

If it helps then go for it. I can’t imagine it’s doing you any long term harm. I used to use a back stretcher which which helped me. Although stretching squatting and bending has helped the most.
Next stop will be a bed of nail in the circus. 😁

I don't have an acupressure mat, but I will say that acupressure is one of the best ways of unbunging blocked or poorly-draining sinuses. It's a godsend when you suffer from chronic sinus issues.
