The first born, aged 7, is asking Father Christmas for an action / go pro type camera.

Father Christmas has a budget of around £100 for this device and has asked Mrs B and me for advice.

Mrs B has passed on this challenge to me having identified

As a possible.

The camera will be used for messing about in the house and garden, riding his bike, walking, camping, getting wet, fishing, snorkelling, digging up worms and who knows what other boy stuff. But essentially it will have to be waterproof (or have a waterproof case), be mountable, be easy to use, and robust.

I'll be honest, the link above seems a bit cheap, but I have no idea about specs and what I am looking for...

Akaso seem to be a big brand on Amazon....

This doesnt seem to bad to my untrained eye

This one is twice the price and (acceptably) over budget, but "anti shake" seems quite desirable...

Does anyone have any thoughts on the Akaso or wolfang stuff? Pointers in other directions?

Akaso will probably be fine for his needs.

I have the Akaso V50x. Nice little camera at the budget end. Here's a vid from a bike ride, gives an idea of quality (not set to highest resolution)

Crikey - thats alright for a sub £100 Camera imo. I'd be well happy with that for a bit of general footage capturing.

Don't suppose you have anything in highest resolution quality - that you're able to share ?

Didn't do any 4K footage, sorry.
I was doing the editing on my old computer at the time, and it was going flat out rendering, even with the lower resolution.
My newer laptop should be more than capable of editing 4K stuff, but yet to try out.
I got it for around 60 quid off AliExpress, and as you say, not bad at the budget end. The remote control on the handlebars is good also :okay:

Don’t apologise. Just wondered if the best quality was markedly different. Looks great either way !!

I have an Akoso albeit from Lidl and not branded as such. Works fine, has image stabilisation and claims to be 4k. Over time the lock on the case has broken but a new case can be sourced cheaply on line.

I had one of those things about 8 years ago. It came with a very good kit (waterproof case, mounts, brackets etc) which werre all good quality. I think my brand was Apeman but it looked identical to what the Akoso is. That is a good price (£56) and tech would have moved on a lot since mine, and mine was more than acceptable albeir only 1080p.

I also think that spending loads on a kids present can sometimes not be the best idea. Buy a cheap one, if he uses it all the time you can always upgrade next christmas. The GoPros don't seem to be the king of the action cams now, all the youtubers I watch use the Insta360 and say it is better. So I'm sure there will be more places in the market now for low to mid budget options

The Akaso comes with a very comprehensive kit - waterproof case, loads of mounts, charger, 2 batteries.
The only negative for me is the small screen, but that's down to my poor eyesight rather than the camera.
As a starter pack it seems unbeatable, and can be had as an Apeman as mentioned, or other rebadged guises.
I'm sure a GoPro would make mincemeat of it in a head-to-head, but just to dip your toe, it's a great little cheap toy :okay:
