Yes, accidents can happen!
A few weeks ago I arranged to meet some friends at a Cafe some 10 miles from home. It had rained during the night but it was dry when I left home in the morn.
I was going thro' a cycle path in a Country Park and was really moving when I hit some mud on a turn. I went down, ribs on to the handlebars and the rest on the tarmac path. Thought I was sent for! Not a sod for miles - I was looking for sympathy. Bike knackered so walked (hobbled) back about 2 miles to civilisation. Found a Doctor's Surgery who wouldn't treat me as I was not one of their patients. Took a train home feeling soooooo sorry for myself.
Result
Bike written off.
Helmet Cracked (Father's day pressie 2 weeks earlier)
Cycle gloves ruined (Father's day pressie 2 weeks earlier)
Cracked rib/s and shoulder. With cuts all over.
Lessons
Don't cycle so fast in the wet
ALWAYS wear a Helmet
And the biggie
Don't laugh, sneeze or cough with cracked ribs
