Hi All,

I recently purchased a couple of high powered front lights from eBay (posted from Hong Kong) which are excellent. They were around £6.50 each with an excellent bike mount and run on 3x AAA batteries. I will put up the link when I find it, but they have a much higher output then my Cateye Singleshot Plus light which cost £100 new.

I am looking to get a set of 6-12 AAA batteries and a good charger for them. I have little experience with rechargable batteries and charges and wondered if anyone had any advice what power and where I should get them from?

many thanks

Have a look at this thread on basically the same subject.

The cateye single shot sucks I'm afraid. I had one and you take it to bits and find it's three crappy AAAs stuck together. Although my newer light can easily be beaten by setting up specialist LED torches, the cateye is so bad it will be slaughtered.

I have a technoline BL700 charger. There are others with similar or better features. DO NOT buy uniross batteries whatever you do.

I'm a big fan of these, and the equivalent AA's

They hold their charge far longer than conventional batteries and are cheaper than the branded equivalents. They also supply a decent charger to use with them. I haven't checked the bundles but they sometimes list special offers on batteries and chargers combined so would be worth a nose round the site.

EDIT: Just to add, I've used 7 day shop a lot and they're my first port of call now for batteries, highly recommended retailer

I totally agree if it's the standard NiMH ones, but the hybrio ones (their low self discharge version) seems good.

If you get into Lidl fast they are doing LSD rechargeables cheaply at present - although it'll be 12 months before we know if they're any good.

I have the Technoline BL700 too. It's very good IME - takes a lot of the guesswork out of knowing the charge state and condition of the battery and the first charger I've ever had with a display that tells me in detail the information I want to know.

The main issue I have with rechargeable batteries is the extra diameter they have which makes them hard to put in some snug battery chambers. Other than that there aren't really any downsides.

I get all my batteries from eBay now (posted from Hong Kong). Cheap and good. I get them in different colours too so I can change a whole set at once (I have orange, blue & green in AAA)
