We used this route from Perth to Killin (NCN77 aka The Salmon Run) - there is a wee bit of a dog leg with between Perth & Bankfoot, but from Bankfoot onwards reasonably parallel to the A9, and on very quiet roads - with lovely views!
Maybe one of the locals (Techmech?) could advise? You could try PM him ...

There are two good routes north from Perth, both leave Perth from Smeatons Bridge going upstream on a joint user path past the golf course with the river on your right. After a mile or two, the path splits* and you can opt to go up the east side of the A9 via Stanley , Luncarty to Dunkeld, or go up the west side of the A9 to Bankfoot and on to Dunkeld. I think via Stanley the route is less hilly, but there is more motor traffic, but still not much traffic.
At Dunkeld you go over the river bridge and through the town then take a left through an ornamental arch and into the grounds of a big hotel. The route is signposted after that, beside the river for a bit, then crosses the river and up to Logierait where you take a single track road into Pitlochry.
*I think the sign is missing at the point the path splits, I certainly missed it last week.
