A surprise at a club 10

At my local club 10 mile TT (of which I am not a member) three riders turned up to ride, paid their £1 fee and asked if they could ride it as a 3-up . Off they went and arrived back in 18'20" ( 33mph) !

It turns out they were from the UK Olympic squad just out for a "spin"

We once had Mark Cavendish, Geraint Thomas and Matt Brammier ride our club 10. They were on the U23 squad then and holding a training camp locally. It lashed with rain and only one other club member turned up to ride. They all did short 21's without tribars, on normal road bikes. On the Thursday of the same week, they all rode at Mallory Park.

There aren't many sports where someone like me (a weedy, ageing ex-smoker) can turn up on a Thursday after work and line up at the start with a professional, but it happens in time-trialling.
