Hey people of CycleChat,
Firstly wanna say your forums are amazing and chock full of hints, tips and great stories.
But i'm sadly having issues with a wheel ive brought, the shimano cassette hub on the wheel is very stiff and is causing issues, its a new item and wasn't sure if its need some adjustment from me or is faulty from manufacture, the hub does spin but not freely, there is no signs of damage at all so any hints are tips on how to adjust it so it spins freely would be welcome.

If you can't (or don't want to) get it fixed under warranty you could always remove the cassette and very slightly loosen the cones on the wheel hub. There are plenty of videos on youtube that show you how to remove a cassette and service/adjust cones.

You will need a cassette lock ring tool, a pair of cones spanners and an adjustable spanner.

Edit: Not sure but you may be able to make a minor cone adjustment on the non drive side without removing the cassette.

Hi and :welcome:

They sometimes over-pack the grease but it should still rotate quite freely.

If you can, turn the bike up on a mat ( to save the bars and saddle) and turn the cranks one revolution quickly and time how long it takes for the wheel to stop.

Also check the bearings aren't rough - you'll feel this if you take the wheel off and turn the axel. If they are, then they are too tight. Easy fix to adjust the cones.
