any recommendations..?

been using 'Weldtite Cycle Oil'...seems ok but is very thin

just 1 drop on each link pivot - but then has to stand on rags overnight as the oil drips off

cheers

Put a drop on each link, leave a few minutes, then spin the crank a few times, then wipe off the excess with some rags until clean ... no need for dripping oil

^ this. FWIW I use chainsaw oil which itself is quite thin, but I follow the religion of MICKLE and don't have any drippage
I tried chainsaw oil and it was horrendously thick! It formed great gloopy strands across the cassette and rear mech as I turned the cranks to oil the rest of the chain. I could also feel extra drag in the transmission - ok, not a huge amount of drag, but lube is supposed to make it easier not harder! Once I had wiped off the excess oil, what was left picked up loads of grit over a couple of rides and made a nasty grinding paste. I won't be using chainsaw oil again, unless I buy a chainsaw!

thanks both ...read the MICKLE article - then done on 2 bikes .......... twice...:excl:

surprised [shocked] at amount of black crud on the rags till it ran 'clean'

the cranks 'did' seem to run smoother afterwards ..............

PS.. a good tip was 'pulling forwards - wipe backwards' - no hassle

The trouble with "sticky" chain lube is that everything sticks to your chain. Muc-Off wet lube is nasty stuff. It's a nightmare to clean your chain and cassette after a few applications. I've stopped using it.
