Even more off topic than my last post.

Operation Stroller went well (https://www.cyclechat.net/threads/12-inches.214750/) - three tubes replaced with sensible ones featuring angled valves so that my son and DIL have no excuse for not keeping them pumped up.

Problem is that one of the latches that allow the wheels to be removed came apart, and I can't think of a way to reassemble it. It's a spring-loaded plunger that engages in a groove on the axle.

In order to reassemble it, I need to compress a small spring (approx 5mm diameter x 17mm long) to about one-third of its length, but in such a way that the compression can be released to allow it to do its work once the latch is back together. Problem is that once the spring is in situ, it's completely inaccessible.

I can post photos and/or a sketch if the above isn't enough to visualise the setup, but if anyone has any bright ideas in the meantime they will be very welcome.

Can the whole assembly be turned to a point that allows it to be removed. Usually a small mark at one end indicating which way to turn it.

Small and very fine.

Thanks for the suggestion - panic now over.

I raided the wife's sewing box, and a sturdy thread loop attached at both ends to the top of the spring and then passed through it enabled me to apply the required compression. Then a couple of sharp tugs to break the thread - there's probably a bit of it still attached to the spring, but it doesn't seem to impede the operation of the latch.

I think I'll change my name to Heath Robinson.
