A reward for female intelligence

Gail Trimble of Corpus Christi has been this year's star of University Challenge. A classicist, equally at home with science, she had scored two thirds of her team's tally of points as they romped to victory by huge margins. Indeed, she was capable of singlehandedly defeating whole universities. She is also very good looking and apparently a very gifted singer.

Now, she has received the recognition her intellectual pre eminence deserves. She has been approached by Nutz magazine for a photo shoot - "Norks out for Nutz."

Sadly this country seems to be tending towards valuing stupidity above intelliegence. Gail Trimble has been subject to a lot of abuse for her intelligence where as Jade Goody is some sort of national hero.

I find female intelligence a very attractive feature. Given the choice between intelligence and plain looks verses super model looks and no intelligence, the intelligence grabs my attention every time.

The air of smugness and self-satisfaction is rather off-putting though.

And that's a pretty generous definition of good-looking too....

It's not surprising. She has the temerity to be very intelligent and not to be particularly apologetic about it.

I do find her a bit irritating though.

But we all do it, make snap judgements based on a pretty shallow evidence base that is. Sometimes those judgements go the other way and we decide that someone is appealing and likeable when the reality is rather different. Swings and roundabouts...

I like intelligent women. A dim one could have the looks and body of a goddess but I'd still climb over her to get to someone with a working brain.

Ms Trimble seems to have hit a nerve, I'm not quite sure why, other than she seems to be a living embodiment of the over-achieving swot stereotype.

errrmmmmmm a quick search on Google Image tells me you have a very strange taste in women Patrick. Miss Trimble is about as good looking as a used tea bag.
