I've generally no time for it but as we have grandkids between 3 and 10 (and others too, bit too old to be bothered with Halloween)..the younger ones love it. Dress up, get sweets, have fun, visit ONLY prearranged houses of friends with mums and grandmothers In tow, I relaxed for a while before they came back for hotdogs, burgers and chips. Happy kids make for a happy me.

Absolutely stacks here, my kids went out too. It is a bit of fun for them all, but I think next year my eldest will be too old and will be on door duty instead.

My kids too old now but my daughter decorated a pumpkin and put it outside. Had lots of groups of kids round, mostly quite young, all polite with a thank you and happy Halloween. Enjoyable.

No knocks on the door here either. To be fair, the kids around here seem to be well escorted by grown ups, and if you're not advertising with pumpkins in the drive etc they leave you alone.

Unlike when I lived in Glasgow. One year we got a bunch of junkies twenty-somethings festively dressed in shellsuits coming round hoping for cash handouts.

I can understand some of you wanting peace and quiet, but I was determined not to be a grumpy old man despite being on on my own this evening (Mrs L had taken the children to see friends).

Put the two carved pumpkins out, and decorated the porch with severed hands, spiders/cobwebs, lights, etc. Also hid a bluetooth speaker out there and streamed wailing/screaming to it.
Successfully scared a couple of the younger kids, but most loved it; all were polite and good-natured.

And of course the Cadburys/Haribo/Quality St/etc went down well.
Must have had over 50 kids knocking on the door during the evening, presumably some of my daughter's class mates but didn't recognise a single one of 'em!

It's a bigger deal over here (well at least from when I was over in the UK). I've had many years with my kids taking them around, and it's only been in the last 3-4 years that it's stopped. Truth be told I miss walking with my kids while they do the trick or treat thing when they were younger desperately. I have some fantastic memories -my kids complaining they were too tired to continue because they couldn't physically pull their loaded pillow cases of sweets anymore and neighbours getting together with some drinks from a cooler! Anyway great to see the "next generation" neighbourhood kids coming round now.

Is this the 'trick or treat' night thingy? If so, someone's been tricked outside my flat. I came home to see the traffic wardens had been out and ticketed two cars parked on single yellow lines. Technically they were breaking the law by parking there, but cars are parked on the double yellows outside for hours on end in the day and they don't get tickets. I think traffic wardens are petty little shoots!
