No, not Ciolek's win at Milan-San Remo, which with the best will in the world was not a particular win for African cycling although it was undoubtedly important for MTN-Qhubeka as a team.
No, unnoticed by European fans no doubt, this week the fifth stage of the Tour de Taiwan was won by a teammate of Ciolek's, Tsgabu Grmay of Ethiopia. The first win by an African in an international race. He's also a graduate of the UCI's World Cycling Center (the UCI does do some good work in between doing its best to mess up cycling as much as possible...).
Many of us have been following MTN-Qhubeka's progress with great interest, I know, and this hopefully marks the early stages of a transition to a genuine world sport. Well done, Tsgabu Grmay - I may not be able to promounce your name, but I'll certainly never forget it.
