Whilst picking my bike up from the LBS after them fixing yet another broken spoke, I was shown a 2nd hand bike that they had for sale. He knows I am looking to upgrade as every time I go in there I have a good look around at what they have on the shop floor.

It is a Dawes Giro 200 but appears to be at least a few years old due to the presence of STI shifters, the newer models have downtube ones instead.

It looked to be in good nic mainly and was in my size, the 23c tyres can be upgraded to at least 25c and mudguards can be fitted which makes it ideal for my commute on less than perfect roads. The writing has scrubbed off on some of the extra components but it looks all in order. They informed that before selling it they would degrease everything, clean it thoroughly and adjust all the components as required.

The asking price is around £200, good or not for this bike would you say or is there anything in this price range that I should consider?

They still do the giro 200 with downtube shifters. I wouldnt want to pay £200 for a well worn one though , you could get a brand new 2011 one for £280. My link

It comes with 26c tyres I noticed .

I agree. £200 is asking a lot. I paid £120 a couple of years ago for a second hand one with the down-tube shifters in very good condition - almost no marks. (It was my first step in getting back on to two wheels.)

The one that he is offering comes with STI shifters and not downtube ones, apparently these haven't been included for a few years and that particular model as DT ones are cheaper.

You can get a brand new full Shimano STi equiped 16 speed road bike with carbon forks at Decathlon Sport for £279

Giro 200 got a bad reveiw from Bike Radar

Have you got a web link to that particular bike? I can't see any sign of it on their website.

I think I will stay well clear of the bike if they want that price for it, it seems at bit of a rip off looking at it.

I'll keep an eye on their website for it to appear, I live nowhere near a store so I can't pop in at all to have a look. It sounds like an ideal bike for me, just what I need but I'd like to see the clearance for mudguards first. I saw the Verenti Kilmeston at the Wiggle stand at the Cheshire Cat today, looks absolutely gorgeous but way out of my price bracket at £800!!!
