In the past week I have got a loud clicking noise which I did not have before coming from either the chain , chain ring or pedals when I am cycling . There is a very very small amount of play in the adjustable BB could this be the cause of the clicking noise ?

Could be something loose. Check the pedals to see if they're tightened up alright.

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
Is it one click per revolution of the pedals or more often than that? I would also give the chain a thorough inspection and check each link and the quicklink (if fitted).

This may sound silly but, it may be your saddle. I had a similar problem and I was convinced it was the chain/ chain rings. A friend suggested I adjust the seat slightly, I was adamant it would do nothing. One large slice of humble pie later, I had no more annoying clicks.

+1 for a close check of your chain. I had this once when I unknowingly re-fitted a Shimano pin in a 10 speed chain, (don't do it folks!)

I was wondering what the thing, ting, ting, ting noise was, then next thing, bang the chain had snapped.

Also, bookmark THIS site, it's great for helping locate spurious noises

It could even be your freehub body: when one of mine wore out, it started making clicking noises (I guess the ratchets and pawls had worn).

Nice one smokeysoo, that link has just solved the two noises that have been bugging me for ages:thumbsup:

Check your FD cable, the excess bit with a nipple on the end. It can stick out and strike the crank as it passes each revolution...just maybe. Happened to me before.
