So cyclists have been going through the village at speeds of 'up to' 5mph less than the speed limit?

Actually, I can sort of see the villagers point. You can sometimes have your head down and not be as aware when riding a TT as when riding normally. Seems like it's been sorted to everyones satisfaction anyway, though not sure if using an undercover cop to monitor things is a very good use of police resources!

It says in the article, "The club has agreed to give the parish council a schedule of time trials and provide warning signs and marshals for larger events."

Surely they should have been doing that (as regards signs & marshals) anyway? Certainly in my experience of TTs, every single event I've been to has had these. Indeed many is the time trial I've been a marshal at. It's standard practice. And many is the time I've gone round a course at the end of an event collecting in the signs put out. And undercover cop? Good grief... certainly in my neck of the woods, there's already many a policeman who takes part in time trials. The article just sounds, well, 'odd'

Eee, bonnie laad, if I was marshalling & saw you with your head down, I'd have reported you to the event organiser!

A couple of our courses go through a village. I don't like them. You have to ease off a little for self preservation, especially where there are cars parked along the sides of the road.

Do the club not have other courses they could use? We dropped one of our courses a couple of years ago because it was becomming less suitable.

I was marshalling a Rudy Project TT through a village a couple of years ago, there were some very hairy moments with cars stopping/pulling away from the shop etc. and riders coming into the street on a slight downhill at 30 -35 mph.

I used to go walking after work when I lived in Leicester - the one thing all Leicestershire villages had in common is that you never saw another human being. Lots of 4x4s buzzing about the place, but no one on foot.

Nothing like a cyclist to make them aware of the constant danger they're living with.
