Before I go clicking the 'buy it' button, can I just confirm with the house that a 1990s Bianchi takes a British thread bottom bracket and NOT an Italian one?

That is my understanding but give me the choice of two and I usually get it wrong.

Whats the groupset? if its Campy I'd reckon it's almost certain to be Italian, shimano would take British /US but don't take my guess for granted ;-)

It is Campy, yes. But it still could be British thread. I thought all Bianchis post late 70s or early 80s were British threaded... but I'm not certain.

Discalimer: I haven't got a clue...but according to Sheldon you can measure the shell to figure out which is which:

68 mm ISO/British/French bottom brackets
70 mm Italian bottom brackets

Can you try unscrewing the old one and see which way it unscrews?

That'd be the sensible thing to do!

Besides the length difference, apparently the bb cup faces are stamped 1.37x24 for English and 36x24 for Italian. I'll have a look and a measure tomorrow. Best to be sure. Don't want yet another ordering of the wrong part!

This is the right way. You can take the BB out if you want but the thread definitions (1.37 inches or 36mm) are just as definitive. Neither the make of the frame or the components necessaily determine the BB threading.

I prefer The Clash, Freddie Mercury is overated ;-)
