Hi,

Being a bit lazy and Internet is playing up at home so rather than Google, crash, Google , crash and repeat as infinitum I thought I would ask the wonderful people here for advice.

Just got my old trek up and running and have realised the old standard wheels are pretty knackered. I have a set of vision 11 speed hub that came off my nice bike and wonder if it's just a matter of a spacer to get the tiagra 9 speed to work. If do any suggested part?

Thanks

you may not need a spacer a 9 speed cassette is wider than a 10 speed cassette try it and see

9 and 10 speed cassettes are the same width, just the cogs are closer together.

11 speeds, the cassette carrier is 2mm wider, so a 2mm spacer (like you get with Mavic wheels) is required behind the cassette for use with 8/9/10 speed (I discvoered this when I bought several sets of 6700 wheels, which must have been the first 11 speed wheels on the market)

X-post with Big_Dave, only he was more precise

@Big_Dave and @tiermat thanks a bundle. Off into town with my daughter so I will pop into the LBS and pick one up. Then the good bike is going in the cellar for dry days until summer and the old trek can get a battering through winter commuting.

Cheers fellas

For the record the sizes, a 10sp is 0.7mm wider than a 9sp, but certainly the 105's first three on the spider are recessed and need the spacer provided with the cassette, this on an 11sp hub.
