Is there such a thing? Or am I counting wrong. I just counted the teeth on an old Dura Ace 9 Speed Cassette and it came up with 24-13t. Am I going mad? I thought you could only get them in 21/23/25/27?

Ok if you look at the back of the cassette you can quite clearly see printed on the top 3 cogs, "19-21-23". But if you do a physical count of the teeth on the top cog it comes to 24.

I always assumed it was 23t-13t

Weird!

You aren't counting the tooth that you've marked by putting your finger on at the start of your count and again at the end?

It was possible to at one point to screw then apart via very narrow allen key bolts and swap them but shimano europe/madison or shimano in general dont like you it appears which is VERY VERY VERY wrong !

You can still get them apart but you have to file down the rivet that holds them in place.

This helps you clean them ! ;)

Lol...No I'm not.

I have just counted the teeth on the new cassette on my new bike which is a 27. It has 28 teeth in total on the largest cog of the cassette. So I'm obviously not going mad. It must be that whatever the size cassette you have be it 21, 23 25 ,27 etc, there is always 1 more tooth. I have never counted the teeth before and never had a reason to until someone asked on a bike I was selling.

Either that or I fail badly at counting!
