9 speed chainrings with 10 speed chain

Can I use a 9 speed chainset with a 10 speed transmission (Chain, cassette, and mechs).?

Yes, that is precisely what is specced on my Dawes Audax and works fine.

Oddly tho, if you use a 9 speed tiagra compact chainset with a 10 speed chain, cassette etc in certain situations the chain will fall between the two chainrings, because whist the large chainring is the same as on a 10 speed chainset the smaller one is'nt.

Looks like it will be a new chainring (if not a chainset).
