8 Speed powerlink - 7 speed chain

I have some 8 speed SRAM powerlinks that I use for my bike.
But my bro's bike needs a new chain and his is 7 speed.
Will the 8 speed powerlinks be compaible with the 7 speed chain?

Doubt it. The 7 speed chain will be slightly wider, so the powerlink won't go on.

6-8 speed chains are all the same - so yes you can. Only 9,10,11 are not interchangeable. My bikes are all 7 or 8 speed and I run the same chains on all.

If in doubt, try it and see.
If the powerlink goes on and doesn't result in a stiff link, it's OK

My understanding was the same as fossy, 6-8 speed chains are all the same thickness so the OP shouldn't have a problem.

The one time I tried it it didn't. I was reluctant to generalise from this, as I can't even remember what make of chain it was.
