8 speed crankset, 7 speed cassette?

I'm going to replace my double crankset for a triple one (for a road bike). The only one I've found with a chain line of 43.5 mm is an 8 speed compatible triple crankset. I have a 7 speed cassette... Are these two compatible? Or do I need to replace the 7 sp cassette and the 7 sp chain for the 8 speed equivalents? Thanks!

6, 7 and 8 speed use the same chain, so are are mutually compatible in this respect. The only thing you need to match up is the cassette and the shifters.

Any 6,7,8 speeds will hapily use a 9 speed chain too !

I once used a 9 speed Campag crankset with a 7 speed shimano set up. There again I am a looney.
