I road tested soem vittoria rubino pro tyres for a ctc member as he loved them and said they they were the best , 150 tpi nylon casing

Features
:
  • The Rubino is on a turf of its own when it comes to high mileage (torture tested in the RAAM and other endurance races) and it has been completely renewed, new casing, new thread pattern, new colours.
  • Nylon 150 TPI casing, market-standard for high performance
  • New Kevlar Endura 3D Compound, with high duration and exciting road-behaviour
  • PRB puncture protection
  • Updated tread pattern
  • Pressure: 7/10 bar or 100/145psi (except 700x25mm 7/9bar 100/130psi)
  • Weight: 225g (700x23mm)
  • .
I found they had a thicker, softer rubber than the gators i currently use so a bit more grip but obviously faster wear rate .

Vredestein Fortezza Tricomps.

They come in red if that's your thing (grey for me), very grippy and roll well. They have no Kevlar belt or similar but I find that sort of stuff useless on a lightweight tyre anyway, the most important thing is the tread and the Tricomps are very resistant to cuts. Last time I looked Ribble were somewhere around £23 which compares well to similar tyres, shop round and you might even find them cheaper.

Michelin Krylion Carbons for me... they are only slightly heavier than pro race 3's, and loose only a slightly amount of rolling resistance. They are very easy rolling, very light and puncture resistant too.. I've only had about 2 punctures in 1600 miles and they could of been prevented if I had bothered to inspect my tyres every now and then as they were caused by tiny bits of glass that gradually work there way through to the inner tube.. I just give mine a quick once over every week or two and pic out any bits of glass that I find.

I only have a conti ultra races to compair them to, which fell a lot heavier and sluggish when riding, the ride felt really wooden too and I had about 3/4 punctures within first 300 miles... the krylion solved all of these problems!

Bonty Hardcase Racelights, £14 from JE James, but not available in Red. Fast, p* proof, slightly harsh riding, but worth it for the zip.

Many swear by Krylion Carbons, in fact they have a huge following on yacf, but I've found my pair to be dead feeling and sluggish in 25c.

Summer tyrtes, PR3s all the way baby!

Riding with rubinos on two bikes - lasting a long while - have some Krylions to put onto both bikes- not got round to it yet due to sheer laziness but have heard good things about them; not sure what my subjective opinion is on them though as not tried them yet but the rubinos are great.

I bought a pair of these recently as they were recommended in one of the mags and were on offer. I fitted them this weekend and rode them for the first time today. I really felt a difference in the bike (although I had gone from 25 to 23) which felt much freer running. Can't comment on puncture resistance yet. They are red walled which is a bind as my team are blue (and we hate the REDS  )
