700c wheels

I have a specialised sirrus bike with alex rims S500
I have brought a shimano R500 rear wheel (bought as I buckled the rear alex rim, but now almost true) and a mavic cxp22 front wheel.
What would be the best set up to run?

I've almost never heard a good word about Alex Rims.

I got S500s on my commuter, and considering my weight at the state of the roads they've stood up well. The braking surface seems to wear quick though.

it means the sides of the rims where the brakes rub onto

it's worn out when it gets so thin that when using the brakes the rim disintegrates into strips of aluminium and you fall off.

But more sensible.answer - there is often / perhaps usually, some kind of wear indicator on the rim. On mine it's a groove all round the rim. When the rim wears down such that the groove disappears ie you've worn the depth-of-the-groove off the rest of it, then you need a new wheel. Some rims have little indented dots instead
