7 week old Specialized Allez

Hi all,

New to the forum but need to jump straight in and ask a question. I have recently purchased a Spec. Allez 18, nice bike, like it a lot and makes my daily 7 mile each way commute much more pleasant. It has just had its 6 week service however now notice that the back wheel is buckled in such a way that its started to rub against the brake block.

I have only used it on roads and although they are thin wheels, didnt expect it so soon.

Should I have expected this? I intend to go and see what the bike shop say but dont expect sympathy.

Appreciate any thoughts

Andrew

Bike wheels are incredibly strong for their weight vertically, but forces from the side may buckle them with relative ease. It's also possible that some of the spokes may have lost tension. Either way, given the age of the bike, pop back to your LBS and ask (politely) if it's covered under warranty.

ps: ;)

on the subject of new Specialized, I have just got an Allez Elite about 10 days ago. The bloke in the LBS said to expect some cable stretch and the gear might play up when the cable stretches.
Anyway after 2 miles of riding, the cable streched so much the chain wouldn't go onto the big chain ring.
I took the bike back to the LBS and he adjusted it for me.

Next time out on the bike the chain wouldn't go into the highest gear at all and kept jumping on cog 4/5 on the rear cassette.
Took it back again today and on the bike stand the gears change fine but when I ride the bike it takes ages for the chain to go onto the last 3 cogs on the rear cassette (ie the 3 highest/fastest gears)

Any ideas?

i would check that the wheel was seated properly in the stays, if incorrectly fitted it could easily foul the brakes

Never had a problem with my Allez Elite. Took it for a cable tighten after 8 weeks or so.
Maybe the rear wheel on yours is not seated properly, hence the apparent buckling. Deffo back to the shop with it.

You might expect wheels to go a little out of true after six weeks "bedding in". But this should have been fixed while it was in the shop. It definitely shouldn't be doing this after the service.

Back to the shop with it, I say. A competent mechanic will sort it in ten minutes or less.

Check it hasn't broken any spokes - that could happen at any time, and might be the cause of the wobble. Again, shop should fix under warranty.

Screw adjuster on rear mech in by 1 "click" (a quarter of a turn, if it's like most). Ride. If it's better, job done, otherwise repeat.
