Doing the Norwich (50 not 100) tomorrow, but now in a dilemma. My lift has blown me out (the old "dodgy hip" routine). I live about 25 miles from the start line. Really fancied doing the 100 mile route but my training partner is adamant he will only do the 50. So my dilemma is, do I drive there and just do the 50 or should I cycle there and back, thus making my own 100? I regularly do 25/30 on both Saturday and Sunday and did a 70 mile audax the other week without any probs, but if I do 25 before the start of the 50, will I be shafted by the end? I am a better cyclist than my mate but not by loads...and Don't wanna be slowing him down if I'm too knackered.

No you'll be warmed up at the start though so you'll have to take it easy for him/her in the early stages, and sensibly in the later stages, recognising you'll have 25 to do after the 'end'.

Sound advice. Just don't wanna appear to have flaked out just because I've done half the distance before he has even started!!

Maybe you could just agree to do separate routes for the day.
You never know, where the 50 and 100 mile rides part ways, he might just decide to turn left at the split and do the 100 with you.

I did consider that but he is adamant he doesn't want to do, so will stick together in the name of being a good mate n all.

And presumably, as well as being a good mate, you'll not be wanting to do 150!

IMG-20160605-WA0000.jpg I went for the journey to and from option in the end and am glad I did. Racked up my first ever ton today and loved it. Early start and sore shoulders but great feeling inside!

Congratulations on your first ton! I did mine earlier this year, it feels great!
Yeah, it does doesn't it. My mate only did 50 but I thought if I do 50, that's halfway to a ton and I don't often get the chance to go for extended rides so seemed like too good an opportunity to pass up.
