Not the greatest of topics to start but I haven't written anything on the forum for a while!

Had my new stem fitted last week to give me less reach and to raise the handle bars a bit more as well, and the kind gent in LBS said I could wait until I'd done a decent mileage with it before paying, to make sure it was worth my hard earned cash! Which I thought was jolly decent of him as I was unsure that it would be enough to help with the stiffness/pain in the neck I get after about 30 miles into a ride.

So I'd planned the weekend in advance, weather was going to be iffy on Saturday but good on Sunday. But Mrs Chewy was working on Saturday afternoon, and I was out to a party in the evening, so wanted to use Sunday as a rested/headache/hangover day

Saturday morning was indeed damp, but dried up by ten, so had a cooked breakfast and a coffee and lycra'd up! Only to stand in the garage after pumping the Giants tyres up and watching the rain hammer down, whilst swearing at the clouds. but after about three minute, it ceased and so I manned up and went out.

Heading for Holsworthy I did get a couple of minor rain showers that almost made me do a short loop, but being a stubborn sod I was determined to do my fifty mile loop as a 'neck test'.

Glad I did as from then on it was near enough dry if not actually sunny. plus I felt good for having a good breakfast AND for just being out for a decent run (first time for a while!). Most importantly Whilst my neck was still uncomfortable by the end, I still had a few miles left in me I thought and hadn't stopped because of it once

So next ride will be to LBS to pay the man his money me thinks.

In the end, a very enjoyable 51 miles at an average of 14.5 mph, a new max of 41.3 mph, and ride time of 3hrs and 24 minutes........and only about 20 minutes of stop time for food/scenery including stops at junctions etc ( not the hour or so that I had the last time due to stretching out my bloody neck

As I say, not a remarkable post, but I felt I had to say something, as it was a very enjoyable ride

Glad it worked for you.

I got a shorter more upward angled stem for my Scott when I first bought it due to lower back ache probs. After a while (about 1000 miles) I changed back to the original and it was then fine.

Hopefully the exercise will strtengthen your neck until its no longer a problem.
