Tomorrow since I cycled, now I can hardly bring myself to even look at CC or CTC, it's just too upsetting. Never had a long term serious injury before, not being able to cycle is driving me crackers, can think of nothing else. Can't cycle, can't run, can't play any sport, can do bugger all and it's looking like January before I'm allowed back on bike........great timing..............

get well soon, hang in there

Sorry to hear that Mark, that sucks.
I was off the bike for 2 weeks, that was bad enough let alone 5-6 months.

It'd drive me nuts not to cycle.
I love it for so many reasons.
You have my sympathies.
Try and distract yourself with other interests and the time WILL pass.
Best wishes.

At least you'll be so happy to be back on the bike that the weather won't bother you

Wishing you a speedy recovery.

You know you have been off the bike for some time when it's tipping it down and you wish you where on the bike!

being laid of with injury is a dark place to be.
We take our health for granted sometimes.
Take up a musical instrument or summat to take your mind of not cycling.
My sympathies and get well soon.

More sympathy posts! Feeling better already.

Many thanks, it's a bummer, absolutely nothing I can do to hurry up the healing, that's what's driving me nuts, roll on winter.............

.
Mark, I don't think I can add anything to the advice given except that I understand how you're feeling. My injury took place in May and I got on my bike for the first time last week. I at least had the distraction of being able to watch the TdF and I like cricket too, so that was OK. If you can find yourself a project (e.g. a friend of mine in a similar predicament digitalised and catalogued his photo collection) and are disciplined enough to spend time on it every day you may find the time passes faster.

I don't know the nature of your injuries but mine were ankle and hand. I couldn't walk, couldn't drive and was essentially house-bound. If you can get out of the house, do so (but don't go down to the LBS!). Also, is there anything you can do to maintain any sort of fitness? Since getting back on the bike I've only done my 15 mile round-the-block ride and I've been taking it pretty easy (the ankle still isn't 100%) but it's like starting back at pre-fitness fitness levels!

Rationally you know you can't do anything about the situation you're in except make the best of it - it's not a problem, it's an opportunity  - and it won't last forever. Follow the medical advice you are given and start making plans ;)

Best wishes for a swift and complete recovery.

PS I forgot the most important thing - spend not one moment, repeat not one moment, watching daytime TV

Thanks .........again.

I injured my right arm, ruptured the distal tendon in my dominant arm, so taking up projects (or instruments) is out of the question, I had loads of autumn/winter projects planned. Learning to do something simple like clean my teeth properly left handed has been a real chore. My right arm is in a full cast, has been for weeks, immobilised at 90 degrees, I am having a brace fitted today to start increasing the angle.

I am as fit as a fiddle (a 49 year old one) and got into great shape to ride back from Barcelona this October, that's what's driving me wild, my legs are fine! The tendon has been re-attached to pegs in a new channel in my forearm, nothing I can do but wait for the bone to grow over, 3 months, make a solid "fix", another 3 months, then I can start weight training. I'd rather have broken all my limbs, seriously, that would be a piece of cake, it's a cyclists worst nightmare injury, I can ride a bike but I m not allowed to fall off....................aaarrrggghhh.

Borrow a trike if you can. Can be ridden one handed and no chance of falling off.
Oh yes, that and they are bloody good fun too.
