Close friend needed a bike,so I sold him my trusted pub/shop/commuter bike.
So what do I buy to replace it?
Already own a road bike, folder and 29er, and my thoughts turn to a winter trainer with disc brakes.
Should I go with a hybrid such as specialized Sirrus or go for for a road bike with discs. The bike will have mudguards all year round.

Options and specific recommendations welcome.
Budget is between £500-£700

Firstly you need a replacement pub/shop/commuter bike.
Then a fast hybrid (flatbar)
And I don't see any mention of a CX/Gravel type bike
Plus the winter trainer...

Look at the Whyte flat and drop options. Broadribb cyckes often have good deals

You really need to add 3k to your budget and go Ti ;)

Thanks for the suggestions thus far,but the more I look, the more I confuse myself with the choices available.

Don't want a cx (do it all) type machine as other threads indicate they don't do anything really well and are a compromise.
The fact I have a proper road bike and 29er means the cx isn't adding anything new to my stable.
Having typed this out, a nicely specced fast flat bar hybrid that can take lifeguards is what I'm after.
Like the look of Whyte and Marin as they standout from the crowd. Does anyone know a shop where a test ride can be done before purchase in London?

@ianrauk can that carbon fibre beauty take full length mudguards?

yes the 2017 Rapid 1 which will compliment my Defy (almost the same frame) nicely. This fulfills the brief of fast winter trainer/commuter etc, but it's far too nice for the pub :-)
