4mm shorter saddle positioning

My new saddle is 4mm shorter than my current one. I know my saddle height, so this isnt an issue. The distance from the centre of the bolt in the cap on top of my handlebar stem to the tip of my current saddle is 390mm, when fitting the shorter new saddle do I simply make this distance 394mm to get into the ballpark area ?

I would measure to the position of my sit bones on the saddle.

Given noseless saddles exist it follows that a different measurement is needed, probably by judging width of saddle at say the saddle clamp and using that? But the above assumes the saddle taper/flare is the same...
