Just been for a ride, one ive done a few times, just short of 14 miles. My best time is just under 1 hour, i went for it tonight and knocked 3 1/2 minutes off. felt good to do it quicker but a little disapointed that i went through extra pain to gain such a small amount, or am i harsh on myself?

A little harsh I think, 3.5mins is quite a big difference over only 14miles just look at the differences in people's 10mile TT PB's where you can be scratching around for seconds never mind minutes.

Keep up the good work & maybe thrash the course once every week or two

The difference between an hour and 56.5 minutes is not to be taken lightly. Now you have done it you will find it easier next time.

Well done!

There is quite a speed increase to knock 3.5 minutes off a circuit you know. Always good to do a circuit and measure your general fitness off it (weather taken into account).

Not harsh enough! The more pain the better. You must embrace it and learn to enjoy pain. One day you will suddenly realise that the absence of pain is worse than pain itself. Then you can knock 4 minutes off.

I think that's good, if you consider you were at a reasonable start point and a good goal might be:-

14 miles in 1 hour = 14mph
improving to
14 miles in 40 mins = 21mph

By taking 3.5 minutes off you're 1/6 of the way to improving from 14 to 21mph, it'll get tougher but it would be a fair longer term target, say 6 months.

I'm surprised BC haven't snapped up your coaching skills yet

yeh the 'no pain no gain' is a little old fashioned, if its that straight forward then everyone would be a coach

I would be happy with that, the other day I took 1min 30sec ish off my time between my door and my GFs who lives in the next village and was chuffed with that seeing as alot of it is up a killer hill (as I see it anyway lol).

I need to plan myself a nice lengh round trip to set little targets for myself on. Though I might leave it till I get a propper road bike.
