I can't answer the main thread but am also looking for advice.

Many thanks to aramok who kindly sold me her Santini Gel 3/4 ladies tights. I wear them under my skirt or dress and over standard black opaques and because I am short, they come part way down my calves, so inside my knee high boots.

I am looking for another pair but Wiggle only have XL and they are discontinued.

I tried on a few pairs in Evans last night, as there is one by Kingston station, but was having an awful time finding ones that fit. They all seemed to be a lot shorter in the body than the Santinis. Even these drop a bit when walking in between trains, but the ones I tried on last night were ok on thighs etc but so low, even when pulled right up, they barely reached my hip bones. The Santinis pull up right over my tummy to the same level as normal ladies tights.

Any recommendations for 3/4 that are a decent body length?

Longs aren't really a great idea - my commute is quite short but so are my legs!

Have you looked at some of the women's gear websites like Minx-girl or Girls Run Too They usually have decent photos of the 3/4 tights (and a good range) so you can see how they are designed. I've had similar problems as, being 'rounded' rather than tube-like, tights and shorts which don't fit into my waist but end on my hips always slide down. I usually chose bib 3/4 tights over waist-length ones for this reason but I can see this isn't a solution for you.
Pearl Izumi gear in general (pricy but good quality) tends to be long in the body but I find the mtb-oriented stuff way too hipster.

Good luck

^^^^This.

I've given up on shorts. I have a small waist and big hips and shorts just don't stay up. I only wear bib shorts now, which is unfortunate because the range of bibshorts for ladies is (a) pathetic; and (b) expensive.

In winter I've got two pairs of ancient Endura 3/4 men's bibs and in summer two pairs of the On One 3/4 bibs. I don't think either is available any more. Neither is female-specific, either, which is a drag.

One of the guys in Evans suggested I try smaller size mens shorts, but I really wanted 3/4. And wouldn't the padded bit be the wrong shape for us ladies delicate bits?

Ended up trying these:-

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003107A86/ref=oss_product

Which are cheapie 'Tenn Outdoors' ones for £17.99.

Nothing flash but they fit really well, nice and high at the front and back. They appear to have some some sort of split to the outside hem in the picture, but they don't in reality, they have the gripper band all the way round.

Will have to see how well they wash up but certainly the padding is nearly as good as the Santini Gel tights, and they come up further. The white piping is quite slimming (I live in hope).

I'll probably try a pair of shorter shorts from them as well.
