I did the first in years yesterday (see my other post) did 15 miles. I thought i'd go the same route again but as soon as I got on the bike my bum hurt from yesterday.Found it hard to sit on the saddle I was no way going to do 15 miles today so I struggled on and did only 6. Quess I should have a rest day and let my bum recover.

Yep.

Do you wear padded cycling shorts? They're by no means a magic solution but they do help. The main thing that'll help with your bum though, as well as how hard you're finding the cycling, is just time on the bike. There really is no short cut I'm afraid but if you stick at it you'll be surprised how quickly things improve.

If you do decide to use padded shorts remember to go commando!

Good effort so far btw

I personally always wear padded shorts unless it's less than a 5 mile ride, which is rare.
For long rides you can't beat a decent pair of bib-shorts, for everyday commuting I use the DHB Pro undershorts which have a thinner pad but are very comfortable and don't make you look like you're wearing a nappy ^_^
Well done on even trying to ride if you are 'sore' from the 1st ride, blob of sudocreme will help

Paul, padded shorts aside, you can't knock out 15 miles after years of non cycling and then do it all again the next day. Take a break, rest up and tackle 17 miles the next time.

Go to your lbs and get some advice on your saddle as above padded shorts or invest in a good gel seat.
