Hokay, I want to put some new mudguard stays on Colin the Claud as the originals are manky. Ideally I'd like stainless, but any would do. Google isn't helping. Does anyone know where I can but new mudguard stays for a 27" wheel, or 700C ones that are a bit longer than the norm?

This was several years ago I bought some stainless mudguard stays from a local.bike shop You can tell how long ago it was the cost was in pounds shillings and pence

More people rode bikes bikes with mudguards then.and there was probably more need back then.
Good luck in your search.

I picked some long stays up from Spa Cycles Harrogate, the last time I was in the shop, they had a whole box of guards and stays they were selling off, don't know if they sell stays via the website though, you could give them a ring.

27" wheels are only 8mm larger in diameter than 700c to the edge of the rim, so taking into account the tyre diameters (27x1 1/4 is approx 700x35c) you should be easily able to adapt a modern set of stays.

What do you have on their currently? Would it be better to get some metal polish and clean the existing ones up?

I got the original stays. They clean up just fine, but when a sparrow does a wet fart 4 towns over then they rust again in the blink of an eye. Some new, ideally stainless ones, would be very welcome.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. The folks at SJS might be the people to help me.

So that means they're only 4mm longer as it's the radius and I've had to cut more than that off of new 700c mudguard stays, so any new 700c's should be plenty long enough.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to reply, I found a full set on evilbay for £8 In stainless. They re for 700c, but the seller got his tape measure out and they're a couple of mm longer than the originals, so all is rosy on the Claud Butler garden.
