For the tyre experts out there, my son is buying two new tyres tomorrow to replace the worn ones he has on the bike now, but the only ones our LBS has in stock are Continental Ultra Gatorskins 25c (23's sold out) Now we don't have time to order online for delivery for Sundays 60 miler.

I have 23c Ultras on my Boardman CX and said I'd swap them over (mine are fairly newish) for the 25C's ... Question is, will I notice a difference from the tyres now to fitting the 25c's or will it just be the same?

Thanks in advance
Norm

In reality no, if they are the same make of tyre, changing to a different make of tyre maybe noticeable.

you won't notice any thing bad, that's for sure. 25s at the same pressure as a 23 will roll better and provide a more comfortable ride - not by a huge amount, but possibly enough to notice...

Yes you will. If it's the same tyre make and model, same pressures, you should notice a slightly smoother ride, if you swop makes, then you may not, due to the differing characteristics of the tyre.

I went from 23 Blizzards to 25 when mine wore out and it definitely took a little bit more buzz out the road, except when you hit the really rough stuff, no difference then.

the ride will be a bit spongier (is that a word?). There'll be a bit more bodoing (that is certainly not a word) as you hit the lips of holes. I'm afraid I can't get on with 25s at all.

Just check the fork clearance. From memory the Boardman has a sizeable fork clearance, but...make sure. (later edit - tundragumski is too quick for me)

my road bike only has clearance for 23s on the rear - something to check

I have that problem on the front, fag paper clearance at best on 23's

My fixed has 700x28, my Kilmeston has 700x25 and my Dawes has 700x23, they all feel the same, I cant feel any difference between them.

Just changed my front from a Michelin Krylion 25 to a Pro4 Endurance 23 (the Pro4 Endurance replaces the Krylion in Michelin's line up).
Has to be said that the Krylion was a "big" for a 25 whereas the Pro4 Endurance is "small" for a 23.
But I certainly noticed the harsher ride.
