Well played!

Keep at it, 30 soon, then 50 then the sky's the limit.
The main issue you need to begin to work on is fuelling. As you're getting to the 30 mark you are needing to start to take on board fuel from the start. Energy drink, flapjack, banana or jelly babies, make sure that you start to eat en-route. With a good brekkie I can just manage 40 miles on water alone, but no further. Time to start finding-out what type of fuel works best.

Eat before you're Hungry, Drink before you're thirsty - little and often is the rule.

Keep it up!

The harrassment is unpleasant but it helps to remember that it isnt personal , usually its just a bunch of over excited kids and harmless. Anything worse and best to take evasive action to remove yourself from the hazard.
Usually not personal but if you look over and its your next door neighbour driving then thats another thing altogether.
Dont let it spoil your cycling.

I did my first 30 last week. Seemed really easy compared to today's 25 where I hit the wall at mile 16.
Lack of fuel as fab foodie explained.
A banana, some jaffa cakes, some fig rolls and a quick drink sorted me out to get home.
Lesson learnt for me though.

Hi,

Well done, 30's my next big target as I try work up to 50. I managed 23 around Rutland on Saturday whilst waiting for my wife to complete the Vitruvian 1/2 ironman (she did 52 miles in between a 1900 metre swim and a 1/2 marathon but she's mad).

I've been running for about a yr and still don't much like it but with cycling I actually find myself wanting to go out rather than thinking I have to. This makes it all so much more enjoyable.

cheers

Well done to you both. You will soon be knocking 50's out.It comes sooner than you think. Also try to find someone to go out with.It can make things easier.

I totally agree about riding with someone else, if I go out on my own I'm bored by 12 miles but if out with someone else 20 to 30 miles is no problem, after 30 miles I get a numb bum, for me cycling is not to punish myself, so when it stops being fun I go home

I got back into cycling 3 years ago and would go on an 8 mile run every other night plus a 20 or 30 miler on weekends.
Its only in the last 6 months that the missus started going with me. We started gradually at a 5 mile night run then adding a little each week and now average 13 miles each night plus a 35 miles run out each Saturday.

It certainly makes cycling more enjoyable and you egg each other on a little more each time you go out. If it had not been for the missus joining me I would still probably just nip out for half an hour each night and a couple of hours of a weekend - time allowing !

Well done mate. As Goobs I also find riding with someone definitely makes the miles pass more quickly! Keep at it

Well done, the furthest ive been is 54 miles and i didnt ride for a few days after that ,did 30 miles last Saturday was fine for half the ride and then hit a headwind coming back ,twas hard work but still enjoyable,as everyone has mentioned snacks are the key for a long ride and a good pair of padded shorts !!!!.
Weather permitting i hope to have a jolt down to Weston this Friday thats 50ish miles
Luckily i havent had the abuse etc you suffered today so i dont know what id do, easily said but try to ignore it mindless idiots.
