Lovely morning so thought I would venture a little further than my normal 10 odd mile loop. Managed 21 on mainly tow and river paths without a stop in 1 hour 50mins. Furthest I have been and quite chuffed I managed it and still felt good at the end and could have done a bit more. Not much compared to some of you guys but great way to spend a Sunday morning. Got a road bike coming on c2w so hope I can turn this into some longer runs in the future.

Well done - i know how difficult it is, as i recently did my 1st ever 20 mile on my MTB and nobbly tyres, and its tough going, especially when Mr Roadie flys effortlessly past at the double the speed. I envy those guys but then think i wonder if i can build up speed on the MTB and pass them. Or wait till Spring and become a Roadie myself.

Thanks for all the comments, my goal is a century charity ride next summer on a roadie but a long way to go, hoping the mtb will give me some base fitness over winter then start to extend myself in the spring. I am a 44 year old and wish I had found cycling years ago, invested in some padded shorts today so I can extend my time in the saddle

Nice job on the 21 miles.
Longer rides on an mtb are just as achievable as on a road bike, plus a lot more fun and way better for you.

I ride +50 miles on a mtb on the weekends (50/50 on/off road) and love scalping roadies for fun. The burr of the knobbly tyre approaching from behind sets fear in their hearts....^_^

(full disclosure: I ride about 10 hours a week, 5 of which are roadie miles)

Well done on the 21 miles.

Saturday I rode just over 22 on mine, on the Marriotts Way cycle path through mud, round dogs and horses and I was shattered. I was going to ride the other half of the ride yesterday but did 12 as I was so shattered after Saturday. MTBs are bloomin' hard work after the mile munching of my road bike. I really need to get some practice in.

Keep up the good work, you will really appreciate the road bike when you get one. Well done on the padded shorts too, money well spent IMO.
