I currently have a 2006 Specialized SWorks Roubaix which I built up with full Ultegra (inc wheels) a few years back. I have the chance to buy (upgrade?) to a nearly new (100 miles) 2014 Scott CR1 Premium. Both bikes are similar in weight and geometry, Scott has di2 which is appealing. Two main questions I need help on are;
  • does carbon have a specific lifespan (current bike 10 years old now)?
  • have carbon frames moved on significantly in terms of performance? (2006 vs 2013)
When new the CR1 was available cheaper than the Roubaix.

I should add that it would hopefully cost me only a £200 to change....

(Just weighed my old bike, 6.8kg with pedals, led lights and cages)

Ride the new bike and see if it feels better to you

Thanks.. I had a quick spin on it round relatively smooth roads..felt fine..would need set up of course and maybe stem swapped out. Geometry very similar to current bike.

Get both :-)

Not sure that would fly with the missus :wacko:. Selling the current bike is part of the deal ...

Divorce her, fill the house with expensive bikes, easy

(Oh and I'm a woman, so no misogyny here ;) )

Ha HaI have friends in that situation! Expensive bikes given way to child maintenance payments etc...better having 7 wives so I don't have to do any chores and keep them on their toes!

seems there may be an issue with the group set - 20 speed di2 is discontinued so breaking a rear mech etc could be expensive (as I'd be forced to convert to 22 speed!) . doh!
