Hi everyone,

I've started a job at a bike shop around the corner from my house in order to save up for a Specialized Allez. When in the store on Saturday, the owner was talking to a customer about the 2012 models of Scott road bikes, which got me thinking about how long it will be until the new 2012 Specialized models come out.

Normally when new models are released for a new year, don't they come into stores in around March/April?

Was hoping if anyone could shed more light on this. I don't want to buy an Allez in the coming months then see a much better Allez next year that I could have bought with the same amount of money.

Thanks.

I don't know much about all this but I wouldn't think a 2012 model would be necessarily better than one from the year before. They may have tweaked the design in some tiny way that ordinary folk wouldn't notice but raw material and component costs have risen so dramatically in the last nine months that they may have tried to save cost by fitting cheaper wheels or groupset.

I think they will start to appear in the next few months.

But your looking at it the wrong way round, when the 2012 bikes come out you'll be able to get a 2011 bike at a big discount against the current prices.

I did this with my Secteur, the change from 2010 to 2011 bikes were mainly cosmetic but I saved £300. :-)

why dont you ask the owner of the LBS you are working?

I went round a couple of shops last week and for what I gather some Specialized bike details have been released (shiv?) and the rest are filtering through right now. One shop seemed to think all details will be out within a month...when they are actually in the shops...I would guess as Vickster says....end september/October.

now if I only when Cube are doing the same

In between here and there
The other thing that would influence me is that with inflation in the Far East running so high and with the Allez always trying to hit that RRP sweet spot of £500-600 I bet the 2012 will have some cost savings on the groupset & wheels etc, you will get much more bang for your buck buying 2011 in the clearance sales.

The guy at the lbs told me that new giant models will be out in around 6 weeks time, so I guess you could go by that?

+1.

I bought my Secteur Sport 2010 model at the beginning of this year, discounted to £480. I think the rrp was about £700. When the 2011 model came out, the price went up to £770. The spec as far as I can see is exactly the same, the only difference being the paint job. It is now red and black; IMHO the white version of 2010 is a much better look!

I'd agree with the others about the price of components, and the cost savings manufacturers need to make to keep the selling price at the right level for their customers. You'll get a lot more for your money by looking for a deal on a 2011 Allez.

Right, I think I'll follow you guys' advice and go for a 2011 Allez when the new ones come out. One more thing - where would be a good place to then buy these, or would places such as Evans and Chain Reaction Cycles sell the 2011 models cheaper?

I don't want to go somewhere dodgy and get a second hand one.
