Does anyone know what headset I need for a 2011 Scott CR1 Pro? I'm looking to replace the cage race with a cartridge bearing.
Spoken to a couple of LBS but neither knew! Searching around on t'internet and I cant find any info anywhere apart from "Ritchey integrated headset" which isn't particularly helpful!
Relatively new to bike maintenance, but thought this would be a half hour job - it's turning into a right pain - especially as the bike is in bits and it's a glorious day out there !
Any help/pointers in the right direction would be very much welcomed

You can't mix caged bearings with sealed (Cartridge) bearings.

I think you have an integrated headset but it is odd that you should have caged bearings (below) as they are usually found in a few semi-integrated headsets - can you confirm that?

This is going to be slightly confusing.

You have a semi-integrated headset.

Basically there is a cup fitted into the top of the headtube with a curved race into which the caged bearings rest and move and then another cup is placed on top to hold the bearings in place.

Cartridge bearings wont fit into this - it has to be caged bearings.

However Richey did a headset called a press-fit with cartridge bearings - presumably the bike would originally have had this.

So all you need do is take the old headset off and then get a Richey Press-Fit to match the bike.

I've had the bike from new which is why I'm confused as to the 'Integrated headset' quoted in all the literature I can find on the bike.

The Ritchey press fit with cartridge bearings is what I am looking for, but I can't find anything on the sizing that I need to match! I didn't think it would be so difficult!!

Thanks for your replies, much appreciated

They don't make it easy and if you are not familiar with headsets it is impossible.

You need to measure the OD (outside diameter) of the headtube and possibly the ID (internal diameter) and then go to a retailer and ask for the model that fits.- but beware - the crown race on the forks will need to be removed in order to install an angled race that will work with the sealed bearings.

If I was you I'd just renew the existing bearings and forget about the cartridge bearings as they are not noticeably better.
