2011 Boardman Comp

From the Boardman pic. it looks as though it has got the broad range 1050 on it! Impressive range from 11-32 and, for the price it looks a good all-round beast.
There's all the usual blurb on the SRAM site talking about 'significant weight savings' etc - which may be crucial - but not on such a bike. I would need to do some 'significant weight saving' myself before that became a consideration.
Get one, (specify the cassette you want perhaps?) and report back!

I'm off to pick up my 2010 Boardman Road bike shortly. Anyone know what the gearing is for the rear cassette? Looks quite small and I've only seemed to find out the front chain rings seem to be 50 / 34?

I'm used to a triple and have always been a bit weary of getting a double due to the terrain round here. I'm going to see if I can get up Llanberis pass on it for a laugh tomorrow. I'll probably end up pushing as I've been a fat lazy mare recently and only cycled 160 something miles this year. Hopefully my new purchase will encourage more outings.

If it's a 2010 Boardman Comp road bike I believe that the inner front chainring is 36T, one of the things that bothered me when I was looking, although it is probably easy to change.

Looks like it's one of the 32t cassettes. IMO the 12-32 is the one to get as it has a very tight high end with wider ratios for 'bail out' when you've go too far & too hard.

Plax, it depends on the triple. The change from a 30t to a 34t bottom chainring gives you 1 to 1.5 gears less for the same cassette.

It's a Truvativ Elita GXP compact chain set which I've googled as 50-34.

Wish they'd say what the rear cassette is though. I'm bound to be asked at work on Monday. Whenever people at work get a new bike one of the first questions asked is what the gearing is like. Perhaps I just work with weirdos:0)

Hi All...

The pic on the Boardman website is definitely an 11-32, but we're assuming what appears in store will be the same as what's on the picture. These things can change.

I've not tried the Apex gearing before but am seriously interested in this for my C2W bike this year. I have SRAM Rival on the 'best' bike, which is fine for weekend use, and for the commute too, but I like the odd touring holiday, and when laden with kit and facing some severe inclines I definitely need life to be a little easier, and there is no triple available throughout the range.

My only concern is the rack set up. There are mudguard braze-ons, which is great, but nothing for a rack, which means messing about with quick release skewer and brake caliper adapters which gets a bit fiddly..

But then there is the Hybrid pro (back to Rival gearing and no drops), or CX Team (knobbly tyres) which have rack and guard capability... any thoughts?

I've got one of the previous road comps and it's a 50-36 Truvativ Elita GXP chainset. Came with a 12-25 cassette. No idea if this changed for the 2010 range but I wouldn't bank on those google results.

+1.

I later changed my cassette to a 12-23 so the older one could go on a cheap wheel relegated to turbo use.

The chain-ring is a 50-34.

The guy at Halfords today (who seemed to know his stuff) agreed with me that the picture of the cassette looked like either an 11-32 or 12-32 (I think they do both).

It looks like the rack problem might be sortable with P-clips - there are eyelets at the bottom of the stays which might work for the rack????

I am going to go back at the weekend if/when they put out the new models - said they were stopped from doing this until the weekend in an attempt to sell off the last of the 2010 stock.

My current (best bike) has an Apex casette/derailleur (Rival everywhere else) and the 11-32 is the dogs ballons compared to the 11-27 it came with. Highly recommended.

I am very under-impressed by my Genesis CDF which I thought I might use on a tour in the summer - debating now on trying the Boardman in an attempt to shed weight and get a bit more speed. Would hope to sell the CDF and not lose out too much.
