That's bad but at the same time I can't believe that they have that kind of window candy without any shutters of some sort.

I don't think my insurance would pay up, if all I had standing between 2 bikes worth £4500 each and potential thieves was a glass door.

I bet they even had huge price stickers on them.

I bet a security grill goes over now.Yesterday a small Police newspaper was posted through the door.A local family had £3000 worth of bicycles stolen in our area.A special unit traced them via sales.Recovered all three. One was in Worcester. All the way from Leeds. That is a good result. The family are praising the Police.

£4500 is not unusually expensive for a top-end bike.

Let's see... the rear wheel alone on my son's time trial bike would cost you about £1100 and that's without the tyres.. or the sprockets..

I used to love Beeline Bikes, spent many a summer afternoon in there as a teenager and pissing off the staff by loitering looking at the bikes but spending no money....!

Crap description given in the Oxford Times though? Unisex bikes? Eh? I know what an S-Works Epic and Stumpy look like, but surely they should use the words 'Mountain Bike'?

It doesn't always work that way unfortunately. A friend of mine's son had a mountain bike stolen in Headingley. It was positively identified on Ebay and the police notified. Their tardy response and poor follow up allowed the sale to go ahead and they were clumsy in their raid on the perpetrator's premises resulting in no charges being brought- no recovery of bike and a strong sense of dissatisfaction with the police force.

Unfortunately when I was there I had to make do with a shoot mountain bike from Walton Street Cycles - Beeline was just too expensive and full of what I thought then were really wierd bikes...

My first racer was from the bike shop on George Street, opposite the Apollo. It closed down years ago and became a souvenir shop or something, real shame, it was a bit old-skool and had all the raleighs....

Everything in George Street is either an eatery or a wine-bar... from Jamie's to Pizza-hut. Good for a punch-up though ;)

I still have a gawp in Beeline's window on my night-time training-runs, buy the odd bit there, but it's always heaving. People generally good though. Tend to use Warlands in Botley road... now that is an old-school bike shop!

Broadribbs used to be in Oxford (sighs, deeply). They sold me the loveliest 531C Raliegh. Which got written off nine months later.

I'd have thought that Beeline's ACT insurance would cover it.

My brother had his shop broken into on two or three occasions, and decided to spend the night sleeping on the shop floor. Sure enough, around about closing time....

My brother is 6 foot 8 and fast on his feet. There was no escape..
