you're right about the mental aspect, stretching the ride distance because the effort feels good

when i joined here i read "it does not get easier you just get faster". I'm not getting faster just lasting longer (chance would be a fine thing say the missus lol)

dont bother thinking of the speed, itll come, build the miles first. when your happy with distance you might want to do some intervals. its really helped me build speed in the last few months

13.5 is a good average for a new rider. i started in march with an average of 12. now doing 14-18 depending on the hills

I've got a Jamis Trail X3 weighs in at a hefty 32 pounds. Locked the front sus out and fitted city jet tyres which make life a lot easier on the road but can be "interesting" on mud

thats about double the weight of my boardman. so 13.5 is a really good time for something that heavy. read somewhere that 10lbs is about equal to 1mph average speed and 1lb is worth a min on a 10k climb

I know by modern standards it's a heavy bike but the last thing I rode was a brick built mtb in the 80s, by comparison this feels like a whippet
