Front gear shifter on my CX is toast ! Probably worn out if I’m honest however might be an opportunity to go 1 x 11 now. 42t be fine for road duties ? Oh and front chain ring recommendations ? Might even swap out my cranks from the non series shimano .

How does a front mech get toasted ? Unless you are a mate of mine that knackered his XT mech by riding his MTB on road all the time, and never used the mech or oiled it. Rusted solid in 9 months.

Done that on a couple of bikes. Removed the front changer and replaced the double rings with a 40t narrow/wide raceface ring.
Shortened the chain a bit and everything works fine with a 10 speed cassette.

Is it advisable to swap out the rear derailieur or absolutely no need ? Not currently looking to put some huge pie plate on the back. 11-28 and a 44 or 42 is more than manageable for my commute.

All seems tickety boo on a 44t at the front with 11-28 at the back for road use. I think if I was off road a lot I’d have to drop to a 42 at the front and maybe got to a 12-30 at the back.
so anyhoo need some new Nuts etc for the front as existing ones are too big. What size do I need to be looking at for single ring ?
