So I went out for my first road ride this morning and really enjoyed it - just as well after buying a new bike and kit etc!

Did 32km in 1hr02 so an average of 19ish mph, the final few miles of which were by accident as I was temporarily geographically misplaced (not the same as lost by the way:blush:).

The only setup/positon problems I had were with my spds - had the cleats too far forward so was pedalling with my toes. After 12 years of using them on the mtb you'd think I'd have checked these more carefully... Thanks to the guys who answered my setup question posted earlier. The Sora shifters which seem to be much maligned ont t'internet forums make perfect sense to me and I found them really instinctive and easy to use.

Just one question though - What's the ettiquette for overtaking a bloke who has his own moped pacemaker?! Started to catch them up (I've no idea how far they'd been etc so don't think I'm claiming to be super fast) and thought I'd feel a bit of a pillock overtaking so just eased off a bit till I needed to turn off their route.

So yeah, same again tomorrow and this time I'll try and beat the hour!

(actually, I left my new roadie helmet in the shop on saturday so had to use my mtb one instead, I reckon the increase in aerodynamic efficiency will let me break the hour mark:biggrin:)

For the win

Ah - I was thinking Feck The "Merchant Banker" which seemed a bit harsh!

(Off topic slightly but has Merchant Banker = W****r ever been more appropriate than at the minute!?)

I'm quite pleased with the time but very pleased I didn't get carried away and join in the East Yorks 100miler which was discussed at the start of the month but cancelled due to the organisers illness:laugh:
