Hi

I have been cycling for 2 weeks to work and back. Today I have done my first longer ride. I did 27 miles

Is that a good starting point? Didn't go for speed just fun.

Hi Ll and welcome to the forum.

Your 27 miles is excellent given your cycling history. You are doing the right thing by cycling at a gentle pace initially as that is the way you build up the stamina in your muscles, lungs and er ... derriere.

No-one says that you have to ride as fast as possible. As long as you enjoy it.

Ride safe.

Well done on your 27 miles... a nice fun ride? That's what it's all about at the end of the day. Keep on enjoying.

it's great .. I would however issue a word of warning:
If you go out and do a few more miles next Sunday, and a few more the Sunday after you will be hooked.

It is then a slippery slope...suddenly things like London-Brighton become within your capability then London - Paris then Land's End to John o'Groats or even London-Edinburgh-London

I know those sound incredible now... but believe me they are entirely do-able

Well done. 27 is a good distance and more than most of the population can manage. If you can do 27 you can do 35 and so on. Don't worry about your pace - it's not a race!

Pete is right about what it leads to. I got back on the bike 4 years ago after a break of many many years and have gone from 27 miles to London to Brighton then Paris and now planning and Land's End to John O'Groats!!

Well done littlelulu. Twenty-seven miles after only two weeks is great. Just keep enjoying the riding. Speed and distance may follow, but fun is the most important goal.

Thanks everyone, it's so true it is addictive!

I am working Saturday so me and my partner have the day off tomorrow. We are going to set out in the morning in the country and stop at the pub for lunch

Might be posting 2nd longest ride tomorrow....
