Planning to do 35 miles tomorrow down to Bournemouth beach. The most I've done on the bike so far is 26 miles. I should be fine felt pretty good after the 26 but on that occasion I knew where I was going. Any tips for navigating a route you have never been? So far all I've done is written down the route from google maps.

Any advise of what I should take with me so I can make sure im prepared?

Take google maps with you as well as the paper!

Take an extra layer and or jacket, food you like, a puncture fix kit or spare inner tube, a camera, a phone...

Berties

Fast and careful!
Keep yours eyes peeled for sunken pot holes ,damaged camber on un ridden roads, especially with the current inclement weather, think about riding comfort weather dependent again,ie wind proof or rain proof top ,snacks and hydration for the ride, spare tube levers and chosen inflator,I always have a idea of my route but am happy to explore a bit,my way of saying I get lost temporarily,I did a run from Salisbury down to swanage via Bournemouth and the link ferry just followed my nose on the back roads, good luck hope the weather holds

My phone has a camera and Google maps so should be covered there. Have all the puncture related bits in my wedge bag plus some Jelly Babies (ive heard they are a good roadside snack )

Im hoping the weather holds Berties keep on checking the forecast every few hours! I've planned a route via Milford on Sea and Barton on Sea, my thinking is that if I can see the sea and its on my left then im going in the right direction!

It would be except im getting the train back. Will be a few months until I can manage the return leg on the bike
To be honest I would think you could do it now if you paced yourself and fed and watered regularly during the ride. I went up from 54 to 105 last year, and again this summer, from 42 to 100, sure I was whacked by the end, but it is a good feeling. Just don't go out as hard as usual.

Just dont rush it and you will speed up as you go along.. and dont clock watch to start off with.
Good Luck anyway..

And if you do have an Android phone then it will most likely already have a Google Maps app on it.

And also, if your phone has gps then if you get lost then you can use it to locate yourself.

Successfully completed the ride in just under 2 and a half hours. Went pretty smoothly didnt really get lost, when I did go slightly off track Google maps which was so helpful got me back in the right direction. Had to stop a few too many times to make sure I was going the right way which hopefully will improve the more times I ride.

Also had my first experience of cross winds riding along the seafront, caught me by suprise almost sent me flying. Weather was pretty good though got caught in a hail storm for about 15 minutes!! I have some pics will put them up in a sec.
