1997 Dawes Super Galaxy

Hi There,

Just wondering what peoples opinions are on a 1997 dawes super galaxy are? A guy i work with is selling one and im not sure if it is a good buy or not. The price is £250 and looks in pretty good condition other than the Griptape from what i can see(which is easily replaced) now i know alot of people rate the newer frames but not sure about the 97 and is the price reasonable?

I will be looking to use the bike for tours from a few days to two weeks.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

A very good bike. I'd put in a good word for a Hewitt (that's what i ride). Thorn, Mercian, Longstaff, Jackson etc also excellent.

Hi I've got a 1997 galaxy - british racing green - the 'super' black?

so without searching for my catalogue to see the differences the frame (the same) is superb - possibly the last year of full 531st tubing, before some tubes were downgraded / shipped abroad - though th,at itself not a bad thing.

Depending on the speck I think the wheels are the same mavic t221, which I've still got - trued over the years & bearings serviced on occasions.

I think the 'super' had a better groupset (mine was rsx - all that remains is the chainset) on the 'super' possibly deore lx - a brooks saddle & possibly front rack - as well as the stadard rear. Bar-ends of course

try offering £200, depending on condition £250 is not bad - give it a good ride though before buying
