Is it ok to do this?

I am working on an old bike, which had 160mm discs but those are totally knackered and need replacing. I was looking at a set on ebay but the front set is a 180mm rotor (with applicable caliper). Still a 160mm rear though so not worried about that

Would it be alright to go ahead and fit this 180mm kit or do i have to stick to the 160s?

Should be fine but you'll need an adaptor to go from 160 to 180. Have a look here:

Before you do, check the mounting systems. If you have a 160mm front at the moment you will have IS mount calipers. The fork legs have bolt receivers perpendicular to the frame, sometimes known as "through the frame".

If the replacement brakes are also IS mount, then you will need an adaptor to extend (sometimes referred to as a +20 adaptor)

However, more recent fork legs have post-mount fittings, and the brakes made to fit them have post mount mountings. The bolts on the caliper are in line with, not perpendicular to the frame. The way in which the bolt receivers are made means that 180mm is generally the smallest rotor size.

If the new brakes are 180 mm post mount you will need an IS to PM adaptor, this will automatically extend the caliper reach to fit 180s, and you shouldn't need a +20.

If you give us a link to the new brakes I can ad a bit more if you need it.

The forks I am looking at are IS fit.

I've just been stripping down the old calipers and reconditioning them, they actually look like they might well be alright to use again, till I am ready for high end brakes
