You need ear plugs to be anywhere near those things as they accelerate up the quarter mile strip. It still feels like your internal organs are being liquified!
I thought I had a photograph of a page from (I think)
'Octane' that described the acceleration of a Top-Fueller
It was something along the lines of;
Imagine a fast car, crossing the start-line of a 1/4 mile strip at 186MPH (300kmPH)
As it crosses the start-line, the Top-Fueller sets off
The Top-Fueller still crosses the finish line first....................... 150MPH faster than its opponant
10,000+BHP is the oft-quoted figure, with nigh-on 500BHP taken to drive the supercharger
(isn't that still a bit of a guess, as strain-gauges can't cope with it?)
Titanium con-rods, so they have some 'flex' to contend with the almost liquid content of the combustion chamber
